Real Wedding : Bringing the Discworld to our world
Charlotte & Gerrard’s
Magical Italian Wedding Stationery
Charlotte and Gerrard were married in the stunning Italian countryside on 24 July 2022. With a destination wedding comes tricky logistics and tight timings, but for me, this project was about so much more than that — it became a massively creative collaboration and a personal highlight.
A dream request from two Discworld fans
Their enquiry came through with a spark that immediately caught my imagination:
“We love Terry Pratchett and Discworld and would love to incorporate that into our wedding stationery.”
Oh, hell yes! Terry Pratchett’s books have been a huge part of my life, and Mort – the story of a boy who becomes Death’s apprentice – remains my all-time favourite Discworld novel. I think everyone’s first Discworld book holds a special place in their heart, and this was a chance to bring that magic into a real-world celebration.
Collaboration and creative alchemy
From the start, this was a truly collaborative process. Charlotte and Gerrard had so many personal stories and favourite moments from their travels that they wanted woven into their stationery, and my role was to bring those ideas to life visually and meaningfully.
One of the biggest creative moments was designing the table plan as Great A’tuin – the iconic giant space turtle from Discworld – carrying four elephants on her back, which in turn held the Discworld itself. But here, the Discworld wasn’t just a fantasy map; it was made up of places that were meaningful to the couple, turning their wedding seating into a personal journey.
Hidden gems and whimsical details
The table name cards were a whole other layer of delight. Each one featured hidden references, from an ice cream cone labelled ‘Margaret’ (a nod to a special memory) to churros, and characters from the Discworld novels that the couple adore. There was Death himself – reimagined in a Barcelona Football strip – and even Death of Rats making his cameo. “Squeeeek?”
These little touches weren’t just fun easter eggs; they created an atmosphere where guests could explore the couple’s story and fandom in a playful, engaging way.
What Charlotte & Gerrard said:
“We loved that it was a collaborative process designing our wedding stationery and that she was able to incorporate so many personal details, from trips my husband and I took, into our seating plan and table names.”
Capturing the moment
The whole suite came together beautifully against the backdrop of Agriturismo Campoletizia, Italy, with photos by the talented Federico Lanuto Photography capturing every detail and joyful moment.
Reflecting on the project
This was one of those rare projects that felt like pure creative joy from start to finish. I got to dive deep into a beloved fictional world, weave in real stories, and create something truly unique for two wonderful people.
